Paris Taxi — Private Transfer Service, Fixed Fares

If you are new to the city, the word paris taxi actually covers three quite different things, and knowing the difference saves money and stress. There is the traditional metered taxi you can hail in the street or pick up at a rank; there is the licensed VTC (voiture de transport avec chauffeur), a private-hire car you book in advance for a price agreed beforehand; and there is Uber and similar apps, which in Paris mostly dispatch those same VTC drivers. Our own service is a pre-booked VTC, which is why every Disneyland and airport fare on this page is fixed rather than metered.

The practical distinction is how the price is set. A street taxi runs a meter, so the total depends on traffic, time of day and the route the driver chooses, and you only learn the final figure at the end. A pre-booked VTC quotes the whole fare upfront, so you know the cost before you ever get in. For an airport run or a trip out to Disneyland in Marne-la-Vallée, where the regulated city flat-rate does not apply, a fixed quote is usually the more predictable option.

A quick word on what "licensed" means, because it matters for safety. A legitimate driver holds either a taxi licence with the official plate and meter, or a VTC professional card with proper insurance and a registered vehicle that shows a small red oval macaron in the windscreen. If someone approaches you inside an airport terminal offering an unbooked ride, that is touting and is best ignored; a licensed, booked driver already knows your name and waits for you with a sign.
